Hunterdon County YMCA President & CEO Bruce Black, Teams Section Chair and Gold Medal Olympian Jason Read and Campaign Chair Jim Lewy celebrate the kick off of the 2010 Strong Kids Campaign.
The 2010 Strong Kids Campaign has kicked off. A team of 40 volunteers and staff members is leading the effort to raise contributions from our local community that will be directed to our financial assistance program. Please take a few minutes to watch our campaign video and learn more about the children and families we serve.
The theme of the 2010 campaign is “Going for the Gold” in honor of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Our goal is to fulfill the expected level of financial assistance requests, which are projected to be up 15% in 2010 from pre-recession levels.
In 2009, the YMCA helped more than 2000 families by giving out almost $340,000 in financial assistance. See here for more details
Financial assistance highlights include the following:
- During the summer of 2009, over 1,000 children participated in our summer day camp program. One out of every seven campers received financial assistance to attend.
- This November the YMCA Child Care and Learning Center celebrated its 10th year of service to the community: 25% of the children ages 6 weeks to 5 years receive financial assistance.
- The YMCA continued to serve families through its before and after school programs at 18 county schools. One out of every eight children in our school aged childcare program received some level of financial assistance.
- We continued our Strong Kids Membership initiative. Designed to support and improve healthy lifestyles and habits of young people, the YMCA provides every seventh grader in the county with a one-year YMCA membership at no cost. Over 388 students benefited in 2009.
The Hunterdon County YMCA is a not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization committed to helping people reach their full potential in spirit, mind and body, serving people of all ages, backgrounds and incomes.
