Bus & Transportation Policy & Practice

A few reminders about dual meets:

• For all dual meets, the coaches will assume that you will be at the meet unless you tell us otherwise. Please let Coach Barbara know ASAP, in writing or via email, if you will not be at a meet due to a serious conflict. Some may feel that one swimmer’s absence will not make a big difference to a lineup of 50+ swimmers, but it does. Please be considerate of the other swimmers and the coaches trying to put the best line up together. In the past we have received calls on the Friday night before a meet to advise us that your child will not be at the meet – this is unacceptable! All the meet lineups are completed a few days prior to the meet, so please notify us early about any known absence.
• In light of the above, if your child does become ill Friday night or Saturday morning before a meet, be sure to still notify us via the swim team phone line, 782-1044 x 655, so we can make any possible changes to the meet lineup.

• For away dual meets, please arrive to HCY 15 minutes prior to when the bus is scheduled to depart. The bus leaves on time. All swimmers are expected to ride the bus unless cleared with the coach. For home meets, please arrive to RVCC at the designated arrival time indicated on your schedule sheet (generally 8:15 AM or 2:45 PM) to check in with your coach, meet as a team, stretch, etc. This is very important – please be prompt!

Bus and Transportation Policy

This year we will continue with the bus and transportation policy for “away” YMCA dual meet competitions that was established a few years ago (there are no buses to invitational meets – only dual meets). This has been successful in the past and we hope that it will continue to satisfy everyone’s needs. Our policy and practice is that HCY will provide a bus to the away dual meet, however, the bus will not be available on the return trip back to the Y. This means that your swimmer will ride the bus to the meet, but will need to be brought home by parents or a carpool that is previously arranged. It is important from a team and coaching perspective to have the team together for a period of time before the meet. The lineup is presented to all swimmers so they have a chance to prepare for their events, last minute lineup changes are made and questions are answered. It is also a time for the team to get together and get psyched for the upcoming competition. However, we also have found in past years that almost all the parents attend the meet and then wish to take their children home or go on to other activities, rather than wait for the bus to return to the Y. We hope that this will continue to help everyone plan and enjoy a successful day!
